Webkinz Sweater Pattern

Girl child loves her Webkinz and my younger two have mentioned wanting clothes for their toys (and seem to think that I'm magic and can knit just about anything....boy have I got them fooled!) But looking at the toy sweater I thought I can do that. And I did.

Webkinz Sweater (I knit this specifically for the dalmation dog shown, but am sure that it'll fit a variety of the animals)

Yarn: I used some worsted weight stuff I had sitting around that my neighbor gave me.

Needles: Size 7

Cast on 32 stitches and join to knit in the round.

1st row (and pretty much all rows) k1, p2, k2 to end stitch k1

Knit for an inch or so (shorter if you don't want to roll the neckband like a turtleneck).

In rib pattern rib 16 stitches (put these 16 on spare needle or holder) bind off 4 rib 11 (12 stitches), next row bind off 4 rib to end (work back and forth on these 8 stitches for 4 rows)

(for the above photo I slipped the last stitch on these rows)

On row 5 rib across the 8 stitches and cast on 8 stitches (use your favorite, for this sweater I used on a knitted cast on, for another one I have on needles I used a backward loop), pm, rib across the 16 stitches on holder, pm, cast on 8.

Rib in established rib pattern for about 2 inches (depending upon how long you'd like for it to be, keeping in mind the length of the stuffed animal's body). Then either cast off all of the stitches loosely, or if you'd like the top of the back to be a tad longer with the curved edge, cast off the 24 "bottom" stitches, knit 2 rows in rib from the 16 "back" stitches, then on right side row K1, ssk, rib to last 3 stitches k2tog, k1, rib the next row, k1, ssk, rib to last 3 stitches, k2 tog k1....repeat last two rows once or twice and bind off loosely.

Please drop me a line if you use this pattern and let me know how it works for you and if you modify it. This is the first pattern I've put out here in cyber world and I'd love to know if you love/hate it. Thanks!

Cute! I came across the pattern on Ravelry. My kids (all 4) got multiple Webkinz for Christmas and my oldest was asking about knitting a little sweater for her white terrier. Thanks for the pattern!

Anne, I used a circular and did the magic loop method. I did uses dpns for one that I knitted for my daughter. Use whichever method you're most comfortable with. Once I figured out how to magic loop I've been using that because the kids can't make off with my needles :0)

Anonymous, After the neck...rib in pattern for 16 stitches and put those 16 stitches aside (on a holder or spare needle) then bind off 4 stitches. Rib the next 11 stitches (you will now have 12 stitches on your needle. Bind off 4 stitches and rib to the end (where the stitches on your holder are...do not knit the stitches on your holder yet). Turn your work and work the stitches not on the holder for 4 rows. Then follow from row 5 on.

Hope this helps!

Is this for a Webkinz pet or Lil' Kinz?

I knitted it up for a Webkinz, but my daughter has dressed her lil'kinz in it it just fits a bit loose. And as with all of the webkinz clothing, it won't fit all of the animals.

I made the sweater and it was so cute. I also went a step further and adapted it to be a dress. About an inch from the arm hole joining I did a few rows to create a raised "belt" look. I did too many and will limit it to two or three rows in the future. Then, I purled (to make the outside of the dress have the knit stitch pattern) into the front and back of a stitch every three stitches. I continued purling until the end (2 1/2 in.) and then did a knit row to try to stop some rolling. I will do a k1, p1 for the last row next time. I folded down the neck and crocheted a fuzzy string edging in a different color and then crocheted another strip over the raised "belt." For the future, I want a skirt that is more full so I'm going to try it with adding on every other stitch. Thanks for sharing your pattern. My DD is thrilled with the outfits and I hope to make more to sell to support a charity.

I found your pattern with a google search and I'm using it to make Webkinz sweaters for my 3 grandchildren. They think they're cool. Thanks so much for sharing it! It's simple but ingenious.

After I used a pattern I saw in a book to make a vest for my little sister's build a bear, she asked if I could knit something for her Webkinz. I think I'll use this pattern- doesn't look too hard. I just hope it will fit her Golden Retriever or Cat.

I'm going to try to it! Hope that it will work. I have to look up how to rib, which I don't think I've done in a while, or perhaps ever. My daughter wants a sweater for her American Cocker Spaniel.
